St. Mary's Medical Education

Thank you for your interest in graduate medical education sponsored by the Augusta University/University of Georgia (AU/UGA) Medical Partnership.

The Internal Medicine Residency Program, a joint effort of the AU/UGA Medical Partnership and St. Mary’s Health Care System, received accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in January 2014 becoming Athens, Georgia’s first medical residency program. The program welcomed its first class of internal medicine residents in July 2015. Since its initial accreditation, the program has consistently received continued accreditation from the ACGME. The residency program is accredited for 37 positions, offering a combination of both categorical and preliminary training opportunities.

The AU/UGA Medical Partnership is a collaborative effort between Augusta University and the University of Georgia to address the critical shortage of physicians in the state. The partnership combines the significant instructional and research resources of UGA, the birthplace of higher education, with the expertise of one of the country’s first, and Georgia’s only public medical school, the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University.

St. Mary’s Health Care System, a not-for-profit hospital, is a member of Trinity Health Inc. Licensed for 196 beds, St. Mary’s offers a comprehensive range of services to the surrounding communities and northeast Georgia. The efforts of St. Mary’s Health Care System to serve as a healing and transformative presence in the community has garnered the organization numerous awards and recognition for outstanding quality of care.

We hope you are excited about what the AU/UGA Medical Partnership Internal Medicine Residency Program at St. Mary’s Hospital has to offer!
